one of the reasons I love love tea is that the possibilities of flavors and variants are endless. There are thousands of ways you can make tea and have tea and there’s always room for new flavors. The newest craze is drum rolls……..cheese tea. Yup, you read right. cheese in tea!
Errmmm nope… cheese tea is not made by steeping cheese in hot water but yes, there is actual cheese in cheese tea.
How do they make the cheese tea?
Cheese tea is simply cold tea (usually green tea or black tea) that is topped with a frothy layer of milk and cream cheese and sprinkled with a pinch of rock salt. I know right? This seems like a very strange combination.
The cheese is whipped together with whole milk to form a creamy, fluffy froth that is carefully layered on top of the tea. The tea is sweetened and the creamy topping is salted making this drink quite interesting when it comes to taste
The tea is quite popular in China but it is thought to have originated in Taiwan.
How do you drink the cheese tea?
Definitely not with a straw!!
Cheese tea drinkers are encouraged to drink this refreshing beverage without a straw so as to experience the layers of flavor. Tip your cheese teacup at a slight angle so that you get the perfect sip of both flavors. You must be careful not to tip the cup too much otherwise you’ll end up with an avalanche of cream on your face. Of course, this comes with a messy face but that’s part of the experience.
It has now become a popular choice for dates for those couples who have a sense of humor and don’t mind having a creamy mustache. This provides a perfect opportunity to be silly and get a laugh out of the experience.
Can I make cheese tea at home?
Cheese tea is easy to make and all you need is milk, cream cheese, some rock salt and tea of your choice.
It is a perfect drink for spring because it’s light and refreshing but yet cosy and comforting.
The pairing of cheese and tea flavors is obviously weird but this drink is definitely Instagram worthy.
